Seeming to be fairly unbeatable on price, each item approximately works out at 37p each, not including the water bottle. The whole pack priced at £6.99 when on sale. Both Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles share this offer from time to time. It’s retail price is £14 so I keep my eye out for this pack when it occasionally crops up.
The flavours are all a bit pick and mix. Each box looks to have different flavoured items... For instance, the protein recovery powder comes in three flavours: Chocolate, Banana/Vanilla, and Summer Fruits. I was disappointed recently to get Banana/Vanilla flavour rather than my favourite - chocolate flavour.
In the pack you receive:
(Although this seems to change with different packs)
It seems there is always something extra in there too. In my latest pack for example there were four ZERO tablets rather than the stated two/ three on the Wiggle/Chain Reaction websites.
The non-caffeine gels are smooth and go down before you know it, the taste isn't exceptional but it’s a matter of doing the job. The caffeine gels aren't for everyone, with 30 mg of caffeine it creates a quite strong potent taste, but if you’re after a quick boost of energy then downing them quickly and ignoring the taste.
I personally love the taste of the High 5 electrolyte tablets in the berry flavour, but they also come in grapefruit flavour, cherry orange, and citrus flavour. The ZERO X’treme version of the tablet has 65 mg of caffeine for an added boost in your drink. These tablets are solely made for hydration rather than giving fueling with carbohydrates.
The only solid edible item of nutrition in this pack is a small 25g energy bar. Flavours you might expect to find in your pack are: Wild Berry, Banana, Coconut, Peanut and I recently had Chocolate Orange flavour which was quite tasty! The only problem with this mass amount of gels and lack of solids is it can leave you feeling hungry or yearning for real food on a ride. That’s why I’d recommend remembering to take both gels and solid bars on your rides. For more on-the-bike nutrition ideas look (here).
The water bottle would usually cost £2.99 bought individually via Chain Reaction Cycles (link). I personally prefer the SIS water bottles for the rubber pull spout, whereas the High 5 water bottle has a stiffer plastic spout.
My pack included nutritional guides for Triathlons, Sportives, and Mountain Biking. Yours may also include a guide to Road Racing nutrition. These guides are all available on their website at www.highfive.co.uk
