Given the recent Paris Roubaix on Sunday I thought I'd share this film that takes a look back in time at the Race of The North.
I very much enjoyed my ride with team-mates Dave and Jamie this morning! Dave took this cool photo and I had to share it on the blog!
Today marked my first race of the season with my new team-mates, David Hales and Jamie Durmush riding for Panagua Bikes in a 2/3/4 Cat race at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit in Hayes, West London.
The pace was moderate and I was happily sitting in the bunch feeling strong watching several attacks go off the front to no avail, whilst keeping my eyes on the good riders that might form a good break later on. David struggled with the pace as he made the jump from racing in 4th Cat only races to also racing with 2/3s but I'm sure we've all gained some good experience.
Around 20/30 minutes in a wayward rider on the top part of the circuit for some reason unknown to me turned rather drastically at a right angle, this unfortunately left me with no where to go and I hit the deck. I escaped with only a few very minor grazes. After hitting my hoods back into place and re-positioning my brake calipers I made my way back to the finish line with a couple of other riders who went down to see if we could get a lap out and re-join the race. This was taking too long as the commissaire was probably confused as to what had happened so I just decided to try and chase back on as the peloton came past. After a good many laps trying hard to chase back on and gaining some ground towards the back of the group, the headwind on the long stretch became a bit too much and I retired from the race.
Team-mate Jamie Durmush finished safely in the bunch sprint with a top 20 position. The crash has left me even more motivated for the rest of the season as I have the potential to do well. Bring on my next race!
A big thanks to my sponsors, supporters and team-mates.
